RECAP: SBDM Town Hall for Twice Exceptional Scholars
The SBDM Student Health Subcommittee hosted a town hall on March 20th for parents of scholars who have challenges with Executive Functioning (EF). Many of these scholars are identified as Twice Exceptional (2E), meaning they are gifted and have an additional learning difference (e.g. ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia, etc).
About ⅛ of our Sudie students are 2E and many more have EF needs without a specific diagnosis. It’s common in the Gifted population! These beautiful minds just work a little differently sometimes, right?
Parents shared many constructive suggestions for how Sudie can better support their students. Ms. Ladipo responded quickly, incorporating specific information for students who have a 504 or IEP in her letter about STAAR testing the next day.
She also included specific goals related to 2E scholars in the Campus Improvement Plan for next school year, including earlier identification of 2E scholars to get necessary supports in place more quickly and additional professional development opportunities for teachers to better understand the needs of our 2E scholars.
She is also looking into ways to make homework due dates and expectations clearer for students and their parents as well as ways to support our scholars in managing their workloads. We are committed to being an inclusive environment for all our students. We are Sudie; we are one!
Make plans to visit on your own ($10 parking) or take a school bus with Mrs. Garnica for the whole day (7 am - 5:30 pm)!
