FROM PRINCIPAL BROKAW
Hello Sudie Families!
We are less than two weeks away from the beginning of school! I am so excited to get to experience my first year at Sudie and to get to know all of our amazing students! Starting on Monday, August 4th, we will welcome our faculty and staff back for the 2025-2026 school year, where we will show that There’s No Place Like Sudie: Lions Leading with Brains, Heart and Courage! During the next week, we will be working on ensuring all Sudie students are provided with a superior educational experience that engages, empowers and enriches! We are eagerly awaiting Thursday, August 7th, when we will get to welcome Sudie students back to campus and meet our families to ensure all Lions are prepared for the 2025-2026 school year!
Below are all the events that will be taking place on Thursday, August 7th:
Lions Camp Date: August 7, 2025 Time: 1:00 pm-4:00 pm Who: New to Sudie students
During this event, all new Sudie students will have an opportunity to form relationships with their new classmates and teachers, become acquainted with all things Sudie (essentials, creed, houses and our campus) and get an inside look into what their experiences will be like as a Sudie Lion!
While your student is learning all about Sudie, we invite parents and guardians to join us at Lions Landing, sponsored by our PTA and orientation put on by our Sudie leadership team.
Lions Landing Date: August 7, 2025 Time: 3:00 pm-4:00 pm Who: Sudie Families What: An opportunity to form relationships with fellow Sudie families and get involved with our PTA!
Family Orientation Date: August 7, 2025 Time: 3:30-4:00 pm What: Set your student and family up for Sudie success by learning all the need-to-know information!
Meet the Teacher Night Date: August 7, 2025 Time: 4:30 pm-6:30 pm Who: All Sudie students and families
During Meet the Teacher, your Sudie Lion will learn all about their upcoming year. Families will get a chance to connect with their students' teachers, understand the important milestones of that grade level and pick up ordered school supplies to ensure your student is set up for success!
In ensuring students are set up for a super school year at Sudie we also want to ensure they have the supplies for success! We have confirmed with DISD that students are allowed to carry either a clear or mesh backpack. Additionally, this year our cellphone policy has been revised to comply with HB 1481, the Texas law prohibiting students' personal communication devices from being used during the instructional day. Sudie students who have a personal communication device (cellphone, AirPods, smart watch, smart glasses) will be provided with a magnetic pouch to store their device in. Prior to entering the school, students will place their devices in the pouch and will place their pouch in their backpacks. When departing campus at the end of the day, students will open their pouch by scanning it over a magnet. If students are picked up early, there will be a magnet in the main office to open their pouch. As always, we ask that if you need to make contact with your student during the school day, you call the Sudie main office at 972-794-8700. As HB 1481 only applies to the school day, students will have the ability to use their devices when riding the bus to and from school.
More information about HB 1481 can be found here, and information about the Dallas ISD implementation of this law can be found in the Dallas ISD Code of Conduct. Questions about our implementation of this should be directed to Ms. Brokaw.
Speaking of updates, I have been able to have a couple meetings about our Bond construction. Tentatively, construction may start in October. The current project scope includes:
A secure vestibule for the front foyer and, subsequently, a redesigned administrative office to accommodate the vestibule.
Updates to classrooms (new floor, painting, classroom board and casework updates).
Roofing upgrades and mechanical upgrades (HVAC, plumbing, lighting, etc.)
New gym flooring
As the semester progresses, I will have more meetings with our Bond team and the construction firm, where we will receive details about the timeline of each phase of the project. This will determine any adjustments or pivots we need to make to our space usage on campus and will be communicated with our staff and community as quickly as possible. Thank you all for your flexibility during this process and your support for Sudie.
Finally, I would like to take time to honor a founding Sudie TAG staff member, Mrs. McKinney. The impact Mrs. McKinney has had over her years at Sudie is immeasurable. She has touched the lives of an innumerable amount of Sudie students, families and staff members and we are all inspired by her dedication, heart and leadership. We wish her nothing but the best in her new role as Assistant Principal at Solar Preparatory School for Girls and are excited to see the doors that open for her because of this new opportunity.
As we finalize our search for a new Assistant Principal, we will keep the Sudie community informed.
Thank you for your support of your student, our staff and the Sudie community!
There’s No Place Like Sudie: Lions Leading with Brains, Heart and Courage
I hope you’re enjoying the final days of your well-deserved summer break—as hard as it is to believe, a new school year is just around the corner.
I’m writing to share I will not be returning to Sudie for the 2025–2026 school year. I have accepted a new opportunity to serve as Assistant Principal at Solar Prep for Girls. It’s important to me that you hear this news directly from me, because each of you has made an incredible impact on my life—something for which I will be forever grateful.
Thank you for trusting me to serve as your Assistant Principal over the past seven years. I am deeply proud of all that we’ve accomplished together. I know that Sudie will continue to soar, thanks to the dedication of this amazing community—students, staff, and families
It has truly been an honor to work alongside you and to serve this remarkable school. I will always be one of Sudie’s biggest cheerleaders. I look forward to hearing about the great things that are happening in the 2025-2026 school year.
With heartfelt gratitude, Tamaira McKinney
