Sudie Calendar

DISD Calendars

Hello Sudie Families!

We’re ready to roar into October! This month holds some of our favorite events, including our 8th grade Washington DC trip, Fall Break (October 9th, 10th and 13th), the first Sudie Night of Thrills and OktoROARfest. It is sure to be a fall full of fun!

Our extracurriculars are in full swing at Sudie! This past weekend, our TMSCA team scored 3rd overall, and we placed 3rd in number sense and math, and 1st in calculator and science. Sudie Cheer showed why There’s No Place Like Sudie during the Hillcrest Homecoming Parade and won best float for middle schools!

As we close out the first nine weeks of the school year, we are also continuing to work towards our goals as a campus. We have begun our Multiply your Math Knowledge and Roar into Reading challenges to encourage students to work on their personalized lessons in I-Ready in order to prepare them to reach their stretch goals during middle and end-of-year I-Ready testing. I-Ready and its similar counterparts (such as Mathia and MyPath) help us continually accelerate the learning of our gifted and talented students because it allows them to focus on the skills they still need to master. The reading and math classes who have the highest percentage of I-Ready lessons complete each month will be provided with rewards to honor their hard work! If you have questions about how your student can access and work on I-Ready at home, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Finally, we know that safety and transportation are always top of mind. A few bus routes have changed pickup or dropoff times, and while we are working with Student Transportation to ask for clarification, the live document with each route information can always be found at this link.

Wishing you a great rest of your week and hoping to see everyone at our October Coffee with the Principal this Friday at 9:00 am on zoom!

Thank you for your support of your student, our staff and the Sudie community!

📣 Hey 7th & 8th Grade Parents! 📣

Did you know that every Monday and Thursday during advisory, high schools have been presenting to the scholars? HEREis the list of all high schools that have or will be presenting. More could sign up as I have emailed ALL DISD high schools to visit us. I have added the presenters' email if you or your child has more questions.

ALSO! Do not forget (7th & 8th ONLY) to join us on October 15th and October 22nd for aZoom meeting(link coming soon) with all the magnet schools, a few early collegesB-Tech/P-Tech schools, and IB schools. Each Zoom meeting starts at 5:15 pm; the precise presentation time for each school is available at the link HERE. Don't forget to bookmark this page to check weekly for updates on high school information that I will add as it becomes available.

Right now, for 8th grade, all students should be making a list of their top 5 high schools that they would like to learn more about. Look up the high school's webpage: sign-up & go to their open houses, info sessions, attend their tours, signup for shadow days, and email specific questions that you may have (if you do not know who to email, use one of the many I have on my page OR email the principal and they will direct with the right person!). Due to DISD growing high school programs every year and changing requirements, I will not know the answers to most questions, so please call or email the high school.

We have until Jan 31st to complete the application process, so we will take it one step at a time - together! Don't forget to visit my Counselor's Corner Page for all the scoop!
